Scientific theme and general objectives

Data science and modeling for living systems and healthcare

The team develops fundamental approaches and new mathematical and physical models for the analysis and interpretation of biological data, particularly those derived from high-throughput technologies. It builds models describing the evolutionary emergence of genetic differences between populations, the architecture or dynamics of biological interaction networks, the regulation and organization of chromatin, the quality control of data issued from high-throughput platforms as well as the risk associated with false discovery. The developed methods are based in particular on Bayesian methods, logical inference or on numerical simulations.

The team also analyzes epidemiological and demographic data from surveys, cohorts, cancer registries and other public databases. It develops methods of statistical modeling in clinical or population epidemiology and in public health, for the assessment of risks to populations or the estimation of over-diagnosis.
