Abstract :

This project consists of modelling gluteal soft tissue as part of the prevention of pressure ulcers in patients suffering from spinal cord injuries. A hyperelastic finite element model simulates and quantifies internal soft tissue strains in the sitting posture. These strains, when they exceed a threshold over a given period of time, may lead to tissue necrosis and then to a pressure ulcer.
